Mermaid Baby Shower

When the mother-to-be wanted a mermaid baby shower, I was so excited to take my own spin on it.

It was a pastel mermaid party with hints of vintage boho.

We definitely wanted to stay away from the traditional mermaid colors like purple and turquoise.

Here’s what we came up with:

Instead, we decided on more muted vintage colors like:

Peaches, moody pinks, and greens. We also added pastel colors and a little blue to brighten it up.

For florals, I decided to use peaches and moody pinks but with dried flowers in the mix for boho vibes.

To add the vintage flair…

We added gems and pearls just like treasure. We also used hints of golds and rose golds.

Transforming the Space

The party was also at a church so we had to work a little magic to transform the space. We put a white backdrop from ceiling to floor. It helped accentuate the cake table.

For the dining tables, we spaced out 5 rows of “farm-table” seating.

Each table had rose rose gold sequin table runners and floral arrangements.

For the ceiling, we also made “bubbles” using clear and pearlescent balloons attached to fishing line.

We also made jellyfish using white paper lanterns with ribbons and crepe paper.

Spread throughout the venue, it made it so magical and finished the under the sea vibe.

A closer look at the desserts

How cute are these under the sea cupcakes!
They were made by the celebrant’s coworker.

A story about the cake..

It was made by me!

Unfortunately, the baker they wanted could not get their cake on time. I’m in no way an experienced professional but we couldn’t have a party without cake!

It was quick work but this cake was made out of Wegman’s vanilla cake! I just stacked 2 together (one big & one small) and started adding things. I used extra flowers, store-made meringues, and edible shells from Amazon! Next day shipping for the win! So if you’re ever in a bind, grocery store cake is not so bad!

The Inspiration Behind the Signage

For the signs, I was really feeling the graphic designs from this Etsy shop owner KaramfilaS

The mama to be was so glamorous. She loved glitz but also a little edge. Check out the art.

Even with my grocery store cake hack, I was so happy with how this shower turned out!

I am always willing to try anything to make the party special, especially for expecting mamas. Babies coming to this world should always be celebrated!
