Celebrating 90 Years

When my client, Sophie, wanted me to help with her grandmother’s party, I was so honored! A 90th birthday is as special as they come.

The Design

We wanted a bold fall color palette with neutrals and minimal whites.

Balloons

We chose shades of burgundy, orange, and yellow for the balloons. We wanted all the shades of fall that aren’t moody but bold and bright like the celebrant. 

Florals

Irmene also loves flowers so we also wanted to have bright and earthy florals for her. We vibed with the presence of greenery but we also wanted all shades of our color palette. We also wanted to highlight sunflowers in this design.

Check out the flower 90 I made! It’s 100% made out of fresh flowers. I’m so happy with how this turned out!

A Sweet Plate

This design wouldn’t have been possible without the bakers of “A Sweet Plate.”

I found Annie and Lydia through a mutual friend and I am so glad I did! They really took my vision and ran with it. They made macarons, custom floral cupcakes, and the lovely cake. I was so appreciative when they asked me what florals I got for the event. It was collaborative but there was so much freedom in their creation. They nailed it! Check out their amazing work here.

Finishing Touches

To tie it all together, we added white pumpkins and fresh fruit like pomegranates. How cute is that? 

We brought in the neutral tones with wood and wicker.

…And we can’t forget the peacock chair!

Capturing This Moment

I had the pleasure of photographing Irmene before her party. It was such an honor!

Especially when I learned tidbits about her amazing life from her family. 

“As matriarch, I have always looked up to her since I was a small child. She made me who I am today. She taught me about love and sacrifice and God. She raised me and my siblings and our cousins to be independent thinkers yet humble.”

There was nothing but love and respect for this woman. As I got to know their family, I began to piece together how much she poured into her family over the years. She sowed many seeds that her family will reap for generations. As mom, I can only hope to have a portion of that. It was so humbling to see and I’m so glad to have met this family. 

“With the challenges of 2020, we made it a mission to show grandma how much she is loved. After surviving COVID herself, a celebration is in order. Its an honor to have her as a grandparent and to have her through my childhood into adulthood. 90 years of love shines from this incredible woman!”
